Many of us do not understand the importance of brushing their toddler’s teeth, the belief that the tooth will be lost anyways make the necessary steps to do it right that much more irrational. However, brushing incorrectly could have big consequences, such as premature loss of the teeth. Premature tooth loss could affect eating habits, speech, and even the way new teeth come in. But what should you do to prevent that from happening?
Brush Twice Daily
Brushing their teeth twice daily ensures that plaque and bacteria that accumulates in their tooth throughout the day is brushed away – keeping their gums healthy and their oral health strong. It also has the added benefit of starting a habit that they will hopefully continue into adulthood.
Use an Appropriate-Sized Tooth Brush
Smaller toothbrushes, designed for toddlers, are properly sized to decrease the amount of discomfort your toddler may feel while brushing. Additionally, the soft bristles will help prevent harsh brushing and limit the amount of damage to your child’s teeth.
Brush Each Surface
When brushing your toddler’s, teeth use a soft grip, and brush at a 45-degree angle for best results. Make sure to brush every surface, from the front teeth to the back. It is also imperative to brush the tongue, as it accumulates bacteria throughout the day.
Proper oral health is imperative for everyone’s overall health, and starting good habits from a young age can help ensure a healthy mouth for the rest of your child’s live.
